Rabbit Information

MARKET RABBITS

Basic Information

You will raise 4 six week old rabbits ( New Zealand or Californian breed) for 4 weeks in December. You will show the most uniform 3 at the county show in January, with the hopes of making sale. You do not have to know anything about rabbits, Ms. Tyler and the rabbit breeder will guide you.

Timeline

  • August 29th: Animal Interest Meeting
  • September 14th: Proof of Purchase or Check due to Ms. Tyler
  • By October 10th: Turn in Quality Counts Number
  • October 19th: Entry Night
  • Last week in November: Pick up rabbits
  • Early December: Validation
  • December 29th: Rabbit Check up
  • January 6th: County Show
  • January 13th: County Show Sale

Equipment

  • 4 six week old rabbits (Ms. Tyler will obtain them)
  • 2- 2'x3' wire bottom cages
  • postal scale
  • small brush
  • food bowl that attaches to the cage
  • waterer that attaches to the cage
  • small bag of timothy hay
  • dust/fragrance free bedding or puppy pads
  • 1 bag of show rabbit feed (Ms. Tyler or the breeder will tell you what feed to you)

BREEDING RABBITS

Basic Information

You will research the recognized breeds of the American Rabbit breeders association and select the one you are most interest in raising. you will go through the process of selecting a reputable breeder to select the most competitive rabbit for the show. You raise your rabbit at home while working with it to make sure it poses properly for judging and its body and fur match breed standards. 

Timeline

  • August 29th: Animal Interest Meeting
  • By October 10th: Turn in Quality Counts Number
  • By October 13th: show Ms. Tyler your rabbit. Bring copy of pedigree
  • October 19th: Entry Night
  • Early December: Rabbit Check up
  • December 29th: Rabbit Check up
  • January 6th: County Show
  • February 1-3: FWSSR

Equipment

  • At least 1 breeding rabbit
  • 1- 2'x3' wire bottom cage per rabbit
  • postal scale
  • small brush
  • food bowl that attaches to the cage
  • waterer that attaches to the cage
  • air tight food storage container
  • bags of timothy hay
  • dust/fragrance free bedding or puppy pads
  • 1 bag of show rabbit feed (Ms. Tyler or the breeder will tell you what feed to you)
